Plextor unveils M5 Pro Xtreme series SSD

Plextor has introduced the Extreme version of the existing M5 Pro SSD Series.

The SSD will come in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage capacities. As the word “Extreme” usually suggests, there will be a performance boost. According to Plextor, the consumer-grade SSD will come with 100,000 IOPS random read and 88,000 IOPS random write speed, with Sequential read speed of 540MB/s and 470MB/s  for write.

At CES 2013, Plextor was demoing the single card and RAID 0 configuration against Samsung’s 840 Pro and Intel’s 520 series SSD.

The M5 Pro Xtreme will be using a Marvell 88SS9187 controller and Toggle NAND flash made by Toshiba.

It’s not clear how much the new M5 Pro Extreme will cost, but Plextor stated that it will be more expensive compared to the counterparts made by other manufacturers. Tweaktown’s Paul Alcorn pointed out that the newer firmware can also be used with the M5 Pro.
