The biggest question surrounding the sensation that is Palworld, is whether it has actually copied Pokémon and whether The Pokémon company actually have grounds for legal action. Well the answer to that may not be too far as the Pokémon Company has released a statement on the matter.
As shared by PCGamesN, the Pokémon company has released a statement on “another company’s game released in January 2024” which outlines their current position on the legal standpoint of the games existence.
“We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024, We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokemon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokemon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokemon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokemon in the future.”
All we do now is wait for their investigation to be completed, but I don’t think they’ll find anything to really go off. There have been numerous claims from critics that the game has straight ripped assets from Pokémon however this turned out to be a false claim with fabricated evidence as shared by @ttvPalmer.
For now most information points towards the game featuring very closely inspired ‘Pals’ but not anything that could actually warrant legal action. A lawyer by the name of Richard Hoeg also doesn’t see Nintendo being able to secure a claim against the game itself in a response to the taken down Pokémon mod from ToastedShoes.
Despite all those claims, Nintendo could still conjure something up so we’ll give them a chance to come up with a potential lawsuit. In other news the game recently cracked 2 Million active players edging just a bit closer to beating PUBG’s 3.2 million all time peak.
