Pokemon Fest a No Go Due to Highly Ironic Reason

Pokemon Go seems to have an army of loyal supporters. You apparently do have to catch ’em all. This had led the popular apps creator Niantic to host their first Pokemon Go Fest. Well, unfortunately, things didn’t quite go to plan due to a rather ironic snag.

Pokemon a No Go!

Creator of Niantic had the venue for Pokemon Go Fest ready. It was to be held at Chicago’s Grant Park, they had the people and they had even put up the bunting. An excellent day was set for all Pokemon trainers. There was, however, just one little snag.

One of the major key components of an online game is, wait for it, online capability. You would, therefore, think that such a matter would be a pretty high priority if you, as the games creator, was creating an event. Well, unfortunately, things didn’t quite go according to plan as the Pokemon Go Fest was plagued with server and connection issues. This resulted in the event being a total bomb reports NextPowerUp.

Why was the event being held?

Pokemon Go is launching new legendary characters. We reported on the details of the legendary characters in an article earlier this week. The festival was being held to offer some of the most hardcore players first access to these. Tickets were sold at $20 per person and as above, the event was a total non-starter. This, quite understandably, left some people a little miffed. No, Miffed is not a Pokemon.

What has Niantic said about this?

They have apologised and offered a full refund on the ticket price. In addition, they have offered $100 worth of Pokecoins (whatever they’re worth) so compensate those who attended. Given that some people travelled hundred (if not thousands) of miles to attend this event, that might not appease all.

In a statement, CEO of Niantic, Mike Quigley has said: “It’s a small gesture, but we’re sorry. This is not the day that we had all envisioned, but we appreciate your patience.”

Niantic is therefore probably going to put a little more preparation into this one. The event, which should have been a Blastoise, ended up becoming a Snorlax.
