Pokemon Go was a global sensation when it launched, and while much of that initial hype has now died down, the game is still incredibly popular with Pokemon fans around the world. While playing it on your tablet or mobile device has been the popular option so far, a lot of users were eager to see it ported to the Apple Watch, either as a standalone release or as a sister app to the main mobile game.
Now reports are coming in that Niantic Labs has confirmed that Pokemon Go is heading to the Apple Watch, and following that, the official Pokemon Go Twitter account is now sharing a confirmation of that same information, so it’s pretty much set in digital stone now.
This will no doubt come as a relief to Apple Watch owning Pokemon fans, after reports quickly surfaced that the project was cancelled for the watch, as it was believed Nintendo was worried about losing money on their Pokemon Go Wrist Accessory if they gave people an app version that does the same thing as Pokemon Go Plus.
With Nintendo recently releasing Super Mario Run on Apple devices, and now Niantic Labs confirming an Apple Watch release, it looks like Nintendo are slowly warming to the idea of more mobile software. A good few years later than many had hoped, but it’s a start and one that could bring Nintendo a lot more money that some of their recent console hardware projects.
