PowerColor Radeon HD 7790 TurboDuo OC 1GB Review

PowerColor have two slightly different variants to their 7790 and aside the obvious information on the box telling you which card you have, the most notable difference is the cooler. PowerColor’s standard OC model bears a cooler that closely resembles that of the ’13Series card from Club3D that we saw not too long ago, whilst the TurboDuo as seen here bears a cooler that is more ‘beefed up’ and more substantial to its own sibling. The TurboDuo also offers 7.5% higher clocks as well so there is a bit more power out of the box.

Below the two silent fans that have been laid on top of the cooler, PowerColor have used an S-shape direct-touch heat pipe design underneath to dissipate heat to all areas of the cooler evenly. The red surround to each of the fans an a simple stripe down the length of the card finish it off.

PowerColor have chosen to orientate the power connector facing out from the end of the card and I have to note that the little bit of room left by the heat sink surround is just enough to easily remove the power cable later on when required.

Like any other 7790 that I’ve seen, PowerColor use the reference array and layout of display outputs with a portion of the rear left for heat to pass out of the card.

As mentioned before, the TurboDuo OC comes overclocked and in this case a core clock of 1075MHz can be found. The memory side of things has been left alone with a reference clock speed of 1500MHz to be found. Going back to the start where the ATI logo can still be found, it appears that the ATI trait still follows into the card itself with the cards subvendor still showing as an ATI brand.
