The big thing currently is realities, be that either a virtual reality or an augmented reality. Either by immersing yourself completely in a fantasy world or enjoying your favourite YouTube videos while you walk down the road, technology is looking to bring together their digital lives and their real ones in the latest revolution of technology. Intel is looking at getting in on the craze with their latest headset, and Project Alloy could be just what it needs to grab some attention.

Project Allow is a headset designed for “mixed reality” use. This means that the system will be able to combine both the real world and the digital one thanks to its 3D cameras and sensors, all of which will be using Intel’s RealSense motion tracking to create a combined world where your digital world and physical world are capable of overlapping one another.

Shown off at a demo this week, the Alloy will be an open-source effort. This means that everyone from app and game developers to your everyday user can create and customise the software to enjoy the most out of the product. While the system isn’t designed for games due to the lower accuracy of the sensors, Alloy will end up more like a laptop or notebook. With the headset being completely wireless, the hidden processing and graphical power it contains means that the headset works alone without having to connect to another device as you go.

Are you excited for mixed reality headsets? Do people need to spend more time apart from their digital lives? Tells us your thoughts in the comments below.
