A prototype PS5 console has been spotted on Yahoo Auctions in Japan with starting prices of JPY 800,000 around £4300.
The prototype console was spotted and shared by wololo.net (Via wccftech) in a Yahoo Japan listing which as of writing has ended though I can’t tell if it was sold or removed by Yahoo. These prototypes are early models of the console which have been sent off to developers to help them understand the console and produce games before the console’s official release. These devices tend to use early firmware and often different or even higher-spec hardware than what the console ships with.
This specific model in question is Prototype 2 and the seller claims they initially bought it off eBay for collection purposes. It features 6 USB ports on the front as well as several buttons. The rear of the prototype contains a HDMI port, another USB port the power cable and two ethernet ports. Interestingly in the photos, we can see “Prototype 2 NOT FOR SALE” written on the front and side of the console which brings me back to my question of whether this was removed from Yahoo Auctions or it actually sold.
Prototype designs are always fun to see especially when the finished product looks so dramatically different. This PS5 devkit definitely looks like it came out of the 90s or early 2000s.
