PS Portal Could Get an OLED Version, Insider Claims
PlayStation Portal, Sony’s remote and cloud gaming device, could receive a new revision in the future. According to a well-known insider, a version with an OLED screen could arrive as early as this year.
The information comes from KeplerL2, a reliable source on technical hardware topics. In the past, this insider has shared details about PlayStation 6 and a possible next-generation Sony handheld, which would run games natively. This would be different from PS Portal, which relies on game streaming.
An Accessory That exceeded PlayStation’s Expectations
Posting on NeoGAF, KeplerL2 explained that the new handheld planned for the PS6 generation will use RDNA 5 architecture. At the same time, the insider stated that PS Portal has been a success for Sony, so much so that the company has another version coming this year. When asked directly what this new Portal model would be, the answer was simple: “OLED version.”
PS Portal has continued to receive updates and improvements. Last November, Sony added cloud gaming support for a selected catalog of titles, available to PS Plus Premium subscribers. Games such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, Resident Evil 4, and many others became playable through the cloud.
Strong sales and user interest appear to have influenced Sony’s future strategy, which reportedly includes both a home PlayStation 6 console and a portable system.
For now, the price of the possible OLED model remains unknown. The current PS Portal is priced at $199.99, although it has seen occasional discounts since its launch in 2023.
