PS4 Destiny: The Taken King Players Forced to Re-Download 18GB Patch

destiny

After being temporarily taken down in preparation for the 2.01 update, reports have emerged that players of Destiny: The Taken King have been forced to re-download an earlier patch which weighs in at a whopping 18GB.

The problem seems only to be affecting the PlayStation 4 version of the game, but there also seems to be some confusion as to whether the prompt that warns players about the hefty download is true. According to Bungie, “Some players are reporting that while the download says it’s a full 18 GB, it actually only downloading today’s small patch. This is the expected behavior for PlayStation 4 downloads.”

Those who have been forced to download the full 18GB, plus others who have experienced glitches that show the 2.01 patch as being 1.17 instead, have taken to the forums to voice their displeasure, forcing Bungie to release the following response:

Hello all,

Thank you for your report of this issue. We are actively investigating why some players on the PlayStation 4 are being required to re-download the full 18 GB patch history. We are also aware that this patch may be showing up as Patch 1.17 on the console instead of Patch 2.0.1, this appears to be the client version of the patch number. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please continue your download.”

  • If you are encountering a ‘corrupted data’ error message, you may want to stop your download, clear your console cache, and then restart the download.
