After a great deal of discussion regarding the PS4 Pro’s jumbled message, it’s finally been released and received overwhelmingly positive reviews thus far. The system’s lack of a 4K Blu-Ray drive and inability to run games at a native 4K resolution was probably enough to dissuade some people from buying the console on launch. However, it seems Sony’s checkerboard upscaling is very impressive and brings a new lease of life to popular games. Not only that, recent information showcases Sony’s attention-to-detail in creating an efficient product which should last a very long time.
Rather impressively, the PS4 Pro’s chassis has an operating temperature window of 3-35C and I’d imagine the 14nm SoC chip to run even cooler. The maximum 35C temperature reading is unbelievable and significantly cooler than I expected. As a result, the console shouldn’t encounter any overheating problems even in the most extreme climates. This is a vast improvement over the PlayStation 3 which suffered from the dreaded YLOD. Of course, architecture improvements and moving to the X86 platform has helped considerably. I’m pleased Sony didn’t cut any corners and included a substantial cooling solution which is also remarkably quiet. If you’re looking to invest in a new console, the PS4 Pro is a great choice.
