PS5 May Have Surpassed Sales of PSP and Game Boy Advance
According to estimates from VGChartz, Sony’s PlayStation 5 has reportedly reached 82.53 million units sold, surpassing the 82.52 million units of the PSP and the 82.51 million units of the Game Boy Advance.
If these numbers are officially confirmed by Sony, the next milestone for the PlayStation 5 could be surpassing the Xbox 360’s 85.73 million units sold, followed by the 87.40 million of the PS3 and, eventually, the 101.63 million of the Nintendo Wii.
Regional Sales Breakdown
The sales distribution of Sony’s console is estimated as follows:
- North America: 29.75 million units sold, compared to 21.62 million for the PSP and 40.39 million for the Game Boy Advance.
- Europe: 28.57 million units, compared to 25.31 million for the PSP and 21.31 million for the Game Boy Advance.

- Rest of the world: 17.08 million units, compared to 15.57 million for the PSP and 2.85 million for the Game Boy Advance.
The recent launch of a lower-priced PS5 model in Japan could further boost sales, similar to what Nintendo achieved with the Switch 2.
Regarding official figures, Sony recently announced that 84.2 million PS5 units have been shipped worldwide, which seems to align with VGChartz’s estimates — although the latter focuses on actual units sold.
With the holiday season approaching, along with current Black Friday deals and the launch of the new budget model in Japan, Sony’s console is expected to gain a strong commercial push in the coming months.
