PS5 Pro Could Soon Receive Major Updates with “PSSR 2.0” and Other Improvements
A new rumor is circulating about the PS5 Pro, echoing previous reports from other sources. The information points to major updates coming to Sony’s upgraded console, including an enhanced version of the PSSR system — called PSSR 2.0 — along with other significant technical improvements.
According to the user Gust_FAN on X (formerly Twitter), this system update is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2026, sometime between now and the end of March. The leak aligns with earlier claims made by Moore’s Law Is Dead but adds more precise timing and technical details.
A Leap Forward in Graphics Performance
The key highlight of this rumored update is the evolution of the console’s AI-powered upscaling technology — the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) system. This feature is considered one of the cornerstones of the PS5 Pro’s design, aimed at enhancing image quality and overall performance.
However, the current version of PSSR has not convinced everyone. In several games, the system has shown inconsistency and occasional issues with image sharpness. The new PSSR 2.0 reportedly aims to solve these shortcomings and deliver a visual output comparable to AMD’s FSR 4, which offers substantial improvements in image fidelity over previous versions.
This upgrade should not only boost graphical clarity but also improve performance across the board, with some titles reportedly reaching up to 120 FPS where they previously ran around 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro.
In addition to performance upgrades, Sony is said to be providing developers with new tools to take full advantage of the PS5 Pro’s hardware. This could mean better optimization, more stable frame rates, and enhanced use of the system’s advanced rendering capabilities.
There’s also mention of potential upscaling support for classic, lower-resolution games, though it’s unclear whether this would be automatic or require developer adjustments.
As of now, all of this remains speculation — Sony has not officially confirmed any of these details. But if these rumors prove true, PS5 Pro owners could soon experience one of the most impressive console updates in recent years, bringing sharper visuals, smoother gameplay, and a noticeable leap in overall performance.
In other news, Sony has finally started cleaning up the PlayStation Store by removing more than a thousand low-quality games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in one go.
