PS5 Pro Sells Out at Stores in the US After GTA 6 Reveal on Netflix
The extensive reveal of GTA 6 on Netflix is already showing results from the huge hype around the game. Right after the long trailer, excited fans rushed to buy the PS5 Pro, which is now selling out at several stores in the US. The few places that still have stock are charging much higher prices.
The news comes from GamesRadar, which at the time of its report said that PlayStation Direct was the only place where the PS5 Pro could still be found for $899. While this post was being written, the console had already sold out through that channel as well, along with Walmart and Best Buy, among others.
PS5 Pro Sells Out Across US Stores
The early sellout of PS5 Pro units shows that predictions from market analysts may come true: GTA 6 will greatly boost console sales at the end of the year.
Speaking with GamesIndustry, one of Newzoo’s executives went further and said that 2026 would be a year without growth for the segment if it were not for the game, which is now expected to help increase revenue by around 5.1% compared with 2025.
Ironically, another factor helping to bring some stability to video game sales is the success of the Nintendo Switch 2, which continues to sell strongly throughout the year and will not receive a version of GTA 6 in November.
Since the game is not coming to PC at launch, the PS5 Pro is currently the most advanced hardware where GTA 6 will be playable, which explains a large part of the hype. One way or another, however, the game is not expected to run at more than 30fps even on this console.
