PS5 Reaches 93.7 Million Units, But Sales Are Slowing Down
Sony has shared its financial results for the first quarter of 2026 and the full 2025 fiscal year for PlayStation. The PS5 has now reached 93.7 million units shipped, but both hardware and software sales are going down.
In the first quarter of 2026, PS5 sold 1.5 million units. This is 900,000 units less than the same period in 2025. This drop is not yet affected by the recent price increase, which started in April.
PS5 Hits 93.7 Million Units
For the full 2025 fiscal year, results are described as “flat” compared to the previous year. The drop in sales was balanced by exchange rates, higher service revenue, and strong sales of third-party games.
Software sales also went down in the January–March 2026 period. A total of 74.6 million copies were sold, which is 1.5 million less than the same period last year.
Out of these, 5.8 million copies were first-party games, also slightly down compared to last year. However, 85% of total game sales were digital, which is an increase of 5% compared to physical copies.
On the other hand, PlayStation Network users are growing. Monthly active users reached 125 million, which is 1 million more than the same period in 2025.
Sony does not expect strong growth for the 2026 fiscal year, with revenue expected to stay mostly stable, also because of higher company costs. It will be important to see the impact of GTA 6 on the market, along with the effect of the new higher price of PS5.
