PS6 Release May Be Pushed to 2030, Analysts Warn of Higher Price and Extended PS5 Cycle
Analysts continue to speculate about the possible release date and price of Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 6 (PS6). David Gibson, from MST Financial, recently shared his predictions regarding both PS5 and PS6, suggesting that Sony’s next console could face a significant delay.
According to Gibson, the immense success of the PlayStation 5 might encourage Sony to extend its lifecycle. If that happens, the release of the PS6 could be pushed back longer than fans expect. While no exact dates have been mentioned, an extended PS5 generation could last at least one or two more years before its successor arrives.
A Longer Wait for the Next Generation
If Sony does decide to prolong the PS5’s lifespan, the launch of the PS6 might not happen until around 2030. That would mean a full decade of dominance for the PS5 as the leading console generation. Even after the PS6 eventually launches, the PS5 would likely continue to receive support but would officially become part of the “previous generation.”
Another major concern revolves around pricing. The ongoing DRAM shortage has caused industry-wide cost increases, which could influence the pricing of future consoles. Some analysts believe that Sony may delay the PS6 launch partly to avoid releasing it during a period of high production costs — an attempt to keep the final retail price more stable.
Among gaming communities, there’s a growing feeling that the only thing truly “evolving” about the PS6 so far is its price. Many players fear that, whenever it does arrive, the PS6 might become the most expensive PlayStation in history — even when adjusting for inflation compared to previous generations.
No official details have been shared by Sony yet, but if these predictions hold true, gamers may have to wait several more years — and prepare their wallets — for the company’s next-generation console.
