PS6 Will Launch in 2027, Says Leaker
Sony and Microsoft are already working on the next generation of consoles. Just yesterday, PlayStation architect Mark Cerny and Jack Huynh from AMD shared new hints about the future of the system. Cerny mentioned that we could see the PlayStation 6 “in a few years,” and an insider has now given a more specific timeline: the PS6 could be ready by 2027.
The latest video from Sony and AMD focuses on Project Amethyst, a collaboration centered around AI systems designed to improve graphics and performance without relying only on raw power, which would otherwise increase costs. Although the talk didn’t mention it directly, this technology could also benefit the rumored new PlayStation handheld.
PS6 Expected for Fall 2027
The insider KeplerL2, known for his reliable AMD sources, discussed user questions on NeoGAF — especially about when the new hardware might be ready. The video refers to an early development phase and ongoing simulations, leading some to think the console might not arrive before 2028. However, KeplerL2 suggests that 2027 is more accurate.
“2027 isn’t just on the table, it’s the plan unless any unexpected delays happen,” the insider explained. Possible setbacks could be linked to Project Amethyst, political issues, or component shortages, similar to what happened at the start of the current console generation.
A New Handheld to Accompany PS6?
Around the same time, Sony is also expected to release a new portable model. According to reports, this device could outperform the PlayStation 5 in docked mode, allowing it to play PS6 titles (with lower graphical settings).
In related news, Final Fantasy XVI director Naoki Yoshida says there’s no need to launch the PS6 or Xbox Next yet, as current consoles still deliver strong performance despite rising costs.
