CES 2016: The latest range of NAS from QNAP may look fairly similar to the current range, but they’re so much better than ever before! The new TS-253A comes equipped with an updated 1.6GHz quad-core processor and 4GB of DDR3L RAM (upgradable to 8GB). The new CPU setup not only means faster processing and performance in general, but it’ll also unlock the power needed for Ultra HD 4K and 2K video playback, ideal for those of you who use a HTPC, Plex, or the built-in media functions on the NAS its self.
To add to the multimedia performance, you’ll now also find a pair of HDMI ports, and two microphone sockets for Karaoke functions. Overall, a pretty fantastic setup, and don’t worry about storage, as there is also the 4-bay, 6-bay and 8-bay models featuring the same set of upgrades.
Finally, the NAS now features native Linux OS, so you can boot directly to the desktop OS or right into the NAS, giving you a whole host of extended functionality. We’ll have details on pricing for you shortly, look out for full reviews in the coming weeks.
