QNAP released a new NAS called the TS-531X and it is a powerful 5-bay business NAS that features two integrated 10GbE SFP+ ports. The TS-531X features Container Station, allowing users to rapidly develop and deploy IoT (Internet of Things) applications and supports VJBOD (Virtual JBOD) as an economical method for expanding the capacity of other QNAP NAS using unused storage space.

The TS-531X is built with an Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-341 quad-core 1.4 GHz processor by Amazon and comes with either 2GB or 8GB DDR3 RAM installed. In both cases, it is upgradeable to 16GB. It comes with two normal 1 Gbps Ethernet ports as well as two 10 Gbps Ethernet SFP+ ports. Thanks to that and the SATA 6 Gbps ports for HDDs and SSD, the TS-531X can reach up to 1723MB/s throughput speeds. The model also features a hardware-accelerated encryption engine and SSD cache support, ensuring security without compromising performance.

“With its two built-in 10GbE SFP+ Ports, the TS-531X is the perfect solution for high-bandwidth applications such as high-speed file transfer and online video editing and storage,” said Jason Hsu, Product Manager of QNAP. “The TS-531X is also designed to accommodate business and virtualization applications, making it an ideal option for small/medium businesses looking for cost-effective and high-performance NAS solution.”

With five drive bays, the TS-531X can easily provide 50TB raw capacity on its own, but it can easily be expanded shouldn’t it be enough. You can connect up to two expansion enclosures with either 8 or 5 drives to maximize the storage capacity with up to 210TB capacity. Should that still not be enough, then you can expand it further with the used of VJBOD. Virtual JBOD support allows you to use unused storage space on QNAP NAS devices on other QNAP NAS devices and expand the storage space through virtual storage pools and volumes.

You also get all the other well known QNAP features such as the ability to create your own cloud, plenty of backup and security features, virtualization and container systems, and much more.
