QNAP TS-453 Mini NAS Review
Encryption
As mentioned previously in the review, security is an ever growing concern and encryption is a great step to achieve this. As such I will be including a comparison between an encrypted drive and a normal single drive for a basic comparison and to show if and how it will impact on your performance.
Our benchmarks are real-world test and will variate a little. We see above that encryption doesn’t have any real impact on our performance and some of the tests even showed better stats with encryption than without. This can be attributed to normal statistic anomalies and I think it’s fair to say that encryption doesn’t have any real performance impact on this NAS and that is mainly thanks to the choice of CPU.
This is a really great NAS review guys, in fact I would say that it is probably the best I have read on the net so far, and equally rivals and exceeds the top sites for detail. I will bookmark this site for future reviews, and you have pretty much convinced me to buy this NAS over the TS-453 Pro. 🙂
I must also point out that you say in your “Pro’s” list that this NAS is dual-core, when it is in fact quad-core. This needs correcting.
However you really need to update the pricing for the US, as the ones you link to on Amazon for $1500+ are simply ridiculous and it can be had for less than 600USD. I hope that for ethical reasons you have no personal ties or interest with the sellers charging the outrageous prices that you quoted.
