QNAP Unveils TS-x53BU Rackmount NAS with PCIe Slot

QNAP released the TS-x53BU series NAS which is available as 4-bay, 8-bay, and 12-bay units. The new NAS series offers single or redundant power supply setups and optimal performance. An Intel quad-core CPU and the expansion option with M.2 and 10GbE make it a solid choice.

Basic TS-x53BU Hardware

The new NAS series is powered by a 14nm Intel Celeron J3455 quad-core processor. It has a base clock speed of 1.5GHz and a burst speeds up to 2.3 GHz. It is equipped with 4GB or 8GB dual-channel DDR3L RAM, depending on the model. However, all are upgradeable to 8GB. The drive connectors are naturally SATA 6Gb/s and with its four Gigabit LAN ports, the TS-x53BU series can deliver a great performance. With Intel AES-NI 256-bit encryption, it delivers up to 415 MB/s read speed and 416 MB/s write. Four USB 3.0 ports and a HDMI 1.4b connector are also part of the TS-x53BU NAS.

PCIe Slot for Expansion

The TS-x53BU is already a great NAS out of the box, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve upon it. It comes with a PCIe slot that allows installing a QNAP QM2 M.2 SSD/10GbE LAN adapter. With it, you get SSD caching performance and 10GbE connectivity. When coupled with QNAP Qtier auto-tiering technology, which now supports On-Demand-Allocation-Priority, the TS-x53BU helps users make the best use of resources. The QNAP QM2 isn’t the only supported card, it’s just one option. Users can also install another network card with 10GbE or 1 GbE ports as well as USB 3.1 10Gbps adapter.

Single or Redundant Power Supply

The new QNAP TS–x53BU series can be had with either a normal single power supply or one with redundant features. There are multiple drive bays for redundant data storage and multiple LAN ports for redundant connection. With the redundant PSU on top of that, you have one of the best possible uptime scenarios. Should all that fail at once, which is about as likely as a dinosaur coming around the corner, then you’re still able to stay online. With a complete system fail over protection and a second NAS, you’re even covered in such a scenario.

QTS 4.3 Operating System

Of course, the new systems come with the newest QNAP operating system. With it, the TS-x53BU series provides a wide range of applications from the built-in App Center. For example, the IFTTT Agent and Qfiling which help automate user workflows for improved efficiency and productivity. Qsync and Hybrid Backup Sync simplifies file sharing and syncing across devices. QmailAgent and Qcontactz allow easier management of multiple email accounts and contact information. Qsirch provides full-text search for fast file search. QVR Pro integrates video surveillance features into QTS to provide users with an intelligent surveillance management system. And that’s just a fraction of your options and possibilities.
