Qualcomm announcing updates to its Snapdragon processors

Qualcomm, has recently announced a couple of revised Snapdragon S1 processors as well as a few new S4 chips.

The S1 series being revised are the MSM7225A, MSM7625A, MSM7227A and MSM7627A processors, which should offer higher performances as well as facilitating the transition from 2G to 3G. No real in-depth specifications were given although we know that the S1 series processors will be reserved for entry-level smartphones.

The S4, on the other hand, provides more interesting news. Based on the new Krait core, the S4 is going to be the center of Qualcomm’s portfolio starting 2012. The new chips comprise MSM8660A, MSM8260A, MSM8630, MSM8230, MSM8627, MSM8227, APQ8060A and APQ8030, which, according to Qualcomm, are additional chipsets to the previously announced  MSM8960, MSM8930 and APQ8064.

Same story as before, no in-depth specs were released, although we’re most probably going to see 28nm single to quad-core parts along the next-generation Adreno 3xx and Adreno 225 graphics, with the possibility for some to support LPDDR3 dual-channel memory.
