be quiet! Silent Base 800 Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Exterior

The chassis features a lot of plastic on the exterior, but it’s all of a very high quality with a soft looking matte finish. The left side panel is held in place by a pair of thumb screws at the back and there is a removable filter section in the centre of the panel.

The right side panel looks identical to the left, this is a nice touch as it means your system will look great on either side of your desk.

The front panel design is really bold and there is a slight brushed finish to the plastics. The front is split into a two door design and there are two full height air vents on each side of the chassis, with bright orange highlights adding some funky flair to the design.

The top panel features four USB ports, HD audio jacks and a nicely designed power button with a small LED indicator near the front edge of the case.

The top section of the front panel has a thick layer of noise dampening material pre-applied. Behind this panel you’ll find four clip-in 5.25″ drive bay covers.

The bottom section of the front panel has a push-click mechanism at the top and can be folded downward. It features the same noise dampening material as the top section.

Behind the cover you will find a large clip-in and washable dust filter.

Behind the filter you’ll find two high-quality be quiet! fans, each comes mounted with anti-vibration washers pre-fitted.

The rear of the top panel has some extra ventilation space to allow airflow for any top mounted cooling.

The bottom section of the chassis is smooth, apart from the four slots in the corners that can be used for mounting the stands that were included in the box.

The top panel only features a little ventilation and the bottom of the chassis features none, but you’ll notice that there are vents for the top and bottom of the chassis around the back. Directing airflow around the back should help reduce any noise from the chassis. There’s a 140mm Pure Wings 2 fan on the rear mount, three rubber routing grommets, seven expansion slots and a bottom mounted PSU cut-out.

There’s a small handle at the base of the chassis that can be used to slide out the dust filter.

The filter is of a high quality and is washable, perfect for providing your PSU with clean airflow.
