Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 Tournament Edition Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 Tournament Edition mechanical gaming keyboard is available now from the Razer store as well as from many other major retailers. It’s quite expensive at £139.99, but that is quite competitive when you look at the market of high-end mechanical gaming keyboards. The likes of Corsair and Logitech have a huge range of keyboards of their own that can easily break the £100 mark, And the latest from razor is certainly competitive with them in terms of features and design.

Overview

Razer’s new keyboard is certainly impressive and I must admit have very much fallen for it myself. Personally, I would prefer to have a full-size keyboard with numberpad for day to day work, but I am quite happy to make the sacrifice. TKL keyboards free up a lot of desktop space. Having that extra room means you have more range for your mouse especially if you have limited desktop spares, which means you can walk comfortably use lower DPI settings which is often popular with FPS gamers full stop

Switches

Easily one of my favourite features of this keyboard is the use of the new Razer yellow switches. There are three switches available from Razor right now; Green, orange, and yellow. The new Razer switches mimic the feel of cherry MX blue, brown, and red respectively, although, in my opinion, the Razer switches do feel like a more premium switch. Of course, that statement is pretty hard to believe, but switches are very subjective for every user.

Design

Overall the design of the keyboard goes a long way to justify the price tag. It’s a very nice design with a matte black finish and the RGB lighting that has been integrated really shines through well. Obviously, with Razer Chroma V2 technology you can really customise the lighting to suit your needs. Personally, I tend to leave it set to a single colour with maybe a few keys highlighted. I’d rather that than the waving rainbows that manufacturers seem to think everybody would like to have. Obviously, how you want to customise yours is up to you, but with so many options the only limit is your imagination.

Quality

The build quality on the keyboard is fantastic. While the keyboard does have a plastic outer shell it feels weighted and durable, as you would expect from a premium priced mechanical gaming keyboard. The inclusion of a detachable USB cable is another welcome addition, especially for those who tend to break their cables or just simply like to transport the keyboard a lot, this is going to be a big help.

Should I Buy One?

While Razer has designed this keyboard to appeal to the esports and professional gaming markets, it’s obviously going to be a big hit with at home game as well. It is a little bit expensive, but it feels like a good investment once you begin to use it. Personally, I think I’ll be keeping this one of my desktops for a little bit longer than usual, I’m not giving up these yellow switches just yet.

Pros

  • Great build quality
  • Stylish design
  • Fantastic wrist rest design
  • Chroma V2 lighting
  • Detachable cable
  • Compact TKL design
  • On-the-fly macro engine
  • Great mechanical switches

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • It is expensive, but it’s still competitive in the high-end market
