Razer Mamba 16,000 DPI Gaming Mouse Review

Performance

The software features on the Mamba are certainly extensive. Razer says this is one of the most advanced mice in the world and after picking through the software, I have to agree. All the buttons can be customised till your heart’s content, with shortcuts, macros and anything else you desire.

The DPI can be adjusted anywhere from 100 DPI to 16000 DPI in 1 DPI increments, as well as separate values for X and Y, giving you all the customisation you’ll ever need. Acceleration is off by default, although I can’t imagine why you would ever want it enabled.

The lighting system is easily customised, with a full RGB colour picker at your disposal.

There’s also a range of built-in effects, such as breathing and spectrum cycling.

Each individual LED can be customised, giving you even more options to tinker with.

Not happy with the sensor on your surface of choice? You can quickly tune the sensor for optimal performance.

Power saving options are easily accessible, very important when using it in wireless mode.

An in-depth macro recording engine.

Chroma integration for reactive feedback from desktop apps and games.

Stat tracking.

Detailed heat maps for your games, an amazing tool for eSports players.

Razer is keen to show off their sensor performance on the Mamba, saying it’s the most accurate sensor in the world and while that is a tough call to prove exclusively, it’s certainly one of the best I’ve ever tested. The readout is silky smooth across the whole DPI range, although admittedly it’s flipping hard to draw anything accurately at the extremely high DPI, as the pointer moves incredibly fast. However, even at max DPI, there’s virtually no jitter, no acceleration and no angle snapping issues, which is certainly incredible.

The RGB lighting is a lovely addition to this mouse, and it’s certainly a colourful device when powered up. The colours flow through the sides of the mouse, as well as the scroll wheel. What’s even better, is that I managed to snag an LED RGB Razer mouse mat, and the two pair up beautifully.

The mouse has incredible glide on both hard and soft gaming surfaces. This is impressive, as it’s a little heavier than some mice, but it’s well-balanced and still well suited to twitchy FPS gameplay, as it is any other desktop task.

The mouse buttons are snappy and responsive, great for a wide range of gaming, but being able to tune their response is something you’ll never want to live without again. On the lightest settings, the switches take virtually no effort to trigger. This is great for rapid gameplay, but can result in misclicking if you’re heavy-handed like me. Tighten them up, you get a more defined click, and more accurate control, which you prefer is really a personal choice.

The ergonomics of the mouse are certainly comfortable, something that really pays off when you’re working all day and gaming all night with it. The macro engine is a welcome feature too, as it means you can quickly fire up the right profile for the right game, giving you all the shortcuts and lighting effects you desire for the task at hand.

The charging dock looks fantastic with an RGB under glow lighting effect, of course, it all looks even better with the Mamba lit up as well as a Razer RGB mouse mat, but how far you want to go with your lighting customisation is up to you and your budget. Of course, if you have other Razer Chroma products, you can sync up their lighting effects also.

Overall, this is one of the best looking, best performing and most comfortable mice I’ve ever used. Great work Razer!
