Virtual reality is indeed at our doorstep, as the Oculus Rift headset is scheduled for a release at the beginning of 2016. However, it looks like only a few gamers will actually be able to enjoy the experience at its full potential because the technology will be quite taxing on their rigs. The recommended system requirements for the Oculus Rift have been revealed, and they include an AMD 290 or an NVIDIA GTX 970 on the graphics side. The CPU would have to be an Intel i5-4590 or better, while the RAM should preferably exceed 8GB. You can read the full list below.
The team behind the Oculus stated the following:
“The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration. Ultimately, we believe this will be fundamental to VR’s success, as developers can optimize and tune their game for a known specification, consistently achieving presence and simplifying development.”
Ultimately, those with weaker configurations will also be able to use the headset, but they might not be able to enjoy the experience in full due to potential performance issues.
Will you purchase an Oculus Rift, and if so, is your PC ready for it?
