Resident Evil 4’s New DRM Hurts PC Performance, Players Miss Denuvo
Not long ago, Capcom made a move that was widely appreciated by the community: it removed Denuvo from the Resident Evil 4 Remake. As many PC players know, the DRM is often criticized for causing performance issues and other annoyances.
Unfortunately, Denuvo was replaced with Enigma DRM, which appears to be even worse when it comes to performance. In fact, many players are now saying they miss Denuvo.
Frame Rate Drops And Performance Issues
According to a video published by the YouTube channel ItalicMaze, Resident Evil 4 Remake is now running at half the frame rate on a system equipped with a Ryzen 5 5600 and an RX 7600.
Is this an isolated case? The answer is clearly no. Reports are coming in from many players, and the issue seems widespread. For example, Steam Deck users have reported frame rate drops of 20–30%, which is a major hit and significantly worsens the gameplay experience.
More and more video reports are appearing online, all showing very poor results tied to the new DRM. On top of that, some players on social media claim the game is now using more VRAM, adding fuel to the fire.
These problems are also reflected in the game’s recent Steam reviews, which are mostly negative. To be clear, these are reviews posted from February 3 onward, the date when the DRM change took place.
In short, just after finally improving Monster Hunter Wilds performance with a recent patch, Capcom has once again found itself under fire. Players are criticizing the technical issues in its PC titles and what they see as a lack of care for performance problems that matter a great deal to users.
In related news, Capcom says that Resident Evil Requiem will not face the same technical problems that Monster Hunter Wilds experienced at launch on PC.
