Resident Evil Requiem Drops Collector’s Edition, Trump’s Tariffs Reportedly to Blame
Collector’s editions are very common in the gaming world, and the Resident Evil series has long embraced them. This is why many fans were surprised to learn that Resident Evil: Requiem will not be getting one. According to well-known insider Dusk Golem, the reason behind this unexpected decision might be linked to none other than Donald Trump, the current President of the United States.
The Impact of Trump’s Tariffs on Capcom’s Decision
Dusk Golem explained that, while many may not want to hear it, Donald Trump’s unpredictable trade tariffs could be the main reason Capcom decided against producing a collector’s edition for Resident Evil Requiem. The instability of the market in recent months may have played a key role, as the potential costs of creating and shipping such a premium package would likely have been much higher than usual.
As a result, the only special version of the game available in physical format will be the Deluxe Edition. This version includes a steelbook case with a lenticular slipcover, along with a digital code containing several in-game items.
Even though a physical collector’s edition won’t be available, Capcom has announced several pieces of official merchandise connected to the game. These include two connectable figures of Leon and Grace — the two main characters of the story — priced at around £150 each. Additionally, an amiibo is planned for release in the summer, as well as a special-edition controller for the upcoming Switch 2.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2. It’s also worth noting that the game has already surpassed an impressive 4 million wishlists across all platforms.
