Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 Pro Will Run at 4K and Up to 120 FPS
Akifumi Nakanishi, one of the directors of Resident Evil Requiem, was recently interviewed on the Japanese PlayStation Blog, where he explained what players can expect from the game’s performance on PS5 Pro.
According to Nakanishi, Sony’s more powerful console will offer two main graphics options. With ray tracing enabled, the game will run at 4K and 60 frames per second. By turning ray tracing off, players with high–refresh-rate TVs or monitors will be able to reach up to 120 fps, although the average frame rate will be around 90 fps.
Graphics Modes and Performance on PS5 Pro
“When playing on PS5 Pro, you can take advantage of the ray tracing on/off option. With ray tracing enabled, the game runs at 4K output and 60 fps with full ray tracing,” Nakanishi said (translated from Japanese). “When it is disabled, players with a high-refresh-rate monitor can reach up to 120 fps, with an average of around 90 fps. We spent a lot of time optimizing the game.”
“What personally impressed me about the PS5 Pro was its high frame rate. You might wonder if the difference is really noticeable, but when you go back to 60 fps, it immediately feels a bit lacking. The increased amount of information on screen makes the game world feel more convincing.”
Nakanishi did not go into detail about performance on the standard PS5, although it is reasonable to expect the usual Quality and Performance modes at 60 fps.
Nakanishi also confirmed full support for DualSense features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and the built-in speaker, all designed to make the experience more immersive.
“After all, we believe that the most important part of a Resident Evil game is how scary it feels, so we use these features to enhance the sense of horror. For example, when you are overwhelmed by a zombie, it eventually bites you, and we made sure that through haptic feedback you can feel both the grip on your arm and the sensation of the bite in the hands holding the controller.”
“Of course, the trigger resistance when firing also changes depending on the weapon, thanks to the adaptive triggers. Reloading a weapon triggers vibrations and a sound from the controller’s speaker. When solving puzzles that involve rotating a box filled with jewels, the sensation of the jewels rattling inside is recreated through vibrations and sound from the controller, making the game world feel even more realistic and immersive.”
In other news, Resident Evil Requiem could receive a story DLC starring Alyssa Ashcroft.
