With the upcoming release of the revised Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards looking likely set for May 10th, pending formal confirmation from AMD, there is clearly a lot of interest surrounding these new GPUs and particularly so the presumable flagship 6950 XT model. – In this regard though, we’ve already seen more than a few somewhat disturbing rumours that, in terms of price, it’s going to be roughly on par (or only just very slightly less) than the Nvidia 3090 Ti.
Well, in something that unusually adds a little more fuel to that theory, following a report via Videocardz, an Italian retailer has just listed a number of the new Sapphire Radeon 6000 graphics card refresh models. And in terms of the 6950 XT, their TOXIC Limited Edition GPU comes with an eye-watering €3,100 price tag! (Ouch!)
Now admittedly, in terms of direct comparisons to a ‘standard’ or even custom 3090 Ti, this comparison isn’t entirely fair as this model from Sapphire features an AIO cooling solution. These are, generally speaking, always vastly more expensive than their standard air-cooled counterparts. Even with this taken into consideration, however, while there is still a huge question mark as to how the AMD Radeon 6950 XT will compare in gaming to the 3090 Ti, it seems pretty clear that in terms of retail prices, there are definitely going to be firm and seemingly tight comparisons to be made there!
With further listings confirming prices for their 6650 XT and 6750 XT, the overall (bad) news is that it doesn’t appear that this upcoming AMD Radeon 6000 refresh is going to be cheap. In fact, the 6650 XT coming in at €856.58 is more than a little concerning as this is notably more expensive than an Nvidia 3080 Founders Edition.
Yes, custom models always cost more than reference designs. On the whole though, if these prices are proven to be accurate, then it’s hard to make a solid argument to buy them even if they are actually available in a decent quantity. Don’t forget, after all, that the Radeon 7000 and Nvidia 4000 GPUs are, roughly speaking, only 5-6 months away!
