So, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is now formally set for release on February 25th. As you might expect, though, one of the biggest questions from consumers is whether, unlike all 30XX graphics cards so far, this one will actually be available to purchase and in reasonable quantities. – While we don’t have any answers to that just yet, another key factor of interest is exactly how much they will cost. Yes, Nvidia says that they have an MSRP starting at £299 ($329), but we have already seen indications last month that this wasn’t going to be anything close to the reality.
Well, following a report via Videocardz, we now have a lot more European retailers listing 3060’s for pre-order, and, quite frankly, the news regarding their price is not good at all!
Now, admittedly, the prices revealed here are neither in Sterling nor Dollars. So making a direct comparison is not easy. Particularly since countries all have various tax rates that can impact the true retail value. Overall, however, despite that £299 MSRP, it would appear that UK consumers can likely expect the Nvidia 3060 to truly retail for a figure at something closer to 50-75% higher than that.
Although, again, not reliable calculations (see above), it would appear that, by and large, most of the 3060 graphics cards will retail between the £400-£550 area depending on the make, model, and overclocking specifications. So, ‘starting at £299’ eh Nvidia?… Well, we haven’t seen one anything remotely approaching that so far!
If you were hoping that the Nvidia 3060 would be an affordable upgrade, I daresay that this news will be exceptionally disappointing to you. I have to admit that I’m more than a little concerned that this isn’t so much Nvidia as retailers or AIBs perhaps looking to exploit the current situation regarding GPU supply and demand. I mean, quite frankly, you could throw £100 onto most graphics card price tags these days without people thinking it overly unusual.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again though, if ever there was a time where MSRP’s meant nothing from technology manufacturers, it is now!
