Riotoro Onyx 750W Semi-Modular Power Supply Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Riotoro 750W power supply retails for a price in the region of £50-£55. For a 750-watt power supply, that is also gold rated, this represents quite the bargain.

When you add into the equation the excellent test results we saw, this is highly impressive. In terms of pricing, this get a big thumbs up.

Overview

When looking at the design, there is very little to make the Riotoro Onyx stand out from the crowd. If anything the power supply itself is perhaps a little too bland and understated for its own good.

Internally as well, with the rather large amount of glue to the fixings and capacitors, it’s a bit messy under the hood. As disappointing as this is, it clearly though isn’t a factor that has stopped this being a great PSU in terms of performance.

Efficiency and Beyond

Considering the performance and efficiency, the Riotoro Onyx 750w nails every test we conducted. The efficiency was strongly within the gold-efficiency ratings and even creeps a little higher than required. Particularly at the top and bottom end of testing.

It might not be a looker, but it’s definitely a performer! Given that this is a PSU though, did you really expect it to be pretty?

Should I Buy One?

It’s not like the market for power supplies is limited at the moment. Additionally, we’re not convinced that Riotoro has done themselves any favours in terms of the looks of this PSU. In presentation terms, this is a bit bland and overly understated. This is definitely something unusual for Riotoro.

If you can get over that though, in terms of performance, this power supply is a strong performer. Who cares what it looks like on the surface or underneath? This PSU has more than enough going for it in terms of performance to forgive those flaws and look to the base reality of this product. It’s inexpensive and it performs fantastically – What else do you need from a power supply?

Remember, this is a gold-efficiency rated power supply for only around £55. That, in itself, is pretty amazing! Overall the Riotoro Onyx 750w is a winner with us!
