Roblox Launches Generative AI, Faces Plagiarism Claims Over Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

One week after Google introduced its AI world-generation tool, Project Genie, Roblox has unveiled its own generative AI system called “real-time dreaming.” This tool allows players to generate interactive 3D objects, environments, and more using text prompts.

Roblox describes this technology as “4D generation”, powered by the company’s Cube Foundation Model. However, the first public example meant to showcase its potential has sparked controversy, as it appears to closely resemble Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, leading to accusations of plagiarism from the community.

Roblox’s Claims About Its Generative AI

According to Roblox (thanks TWIV), the technology has “the ability to generate fully playable video worlds prompted from any text or image” and “adds the dimension of interactivity to generate functional 3D objects so they behave the way players expect.”

These statements outline an ambitious vision, positioning the tool as a major step forward for user-generated content within the platform.

Beyond official claims, the announcement post includes a demo video showing several pre-made worlds. Among them is what many consider a clear imitation of Sandfall Interactive’s title. The central character strongly resembles Maelle, the protagonist of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, especially in hairstyle and clothing. The surrounding environment also appears very similar to locations seen in the game.

These similarities did not go unnoticed. Accusations of plagiarism quickly spread across social media, with many users openly criticizing Roblox. Some even asked Sandfall Interactive whether Roblox had permission to train its AI using the game, but so far, no response has been given.

For now, the situation remains unresolved, but the debut of Roblox’s generative AI has already raised serious questions about originality, training data, and the limits of AI-driven creation.

In other AI news, Take-Two has officially confirmed that GTA 6 is being developed without the use of generative AI.
