Roccat has always taken pride in their build quality and even more so their audio products performance, both of these qualities shine through today. The Aluma is easily one of the best in-ear headsets I’ve tested and while I must confess, you could perhaps get better headphones for the same money, the added functionality on offer more than justifies the differences.
Overview
I like that Roccat have seen what their customers use these headsets for and added the in-flight adaptor, it’s a small addition, but there’s nothing worse than going on holiday or a business trip with your favourite headset and finding out you can’t use it for the in-flight entertainment system. The same goes for the dual 3.5mm adaptor, as it gives you a means to easily connect the headset to your desktop computer or laptop for use with your favourite movies, games, music, or whatever takes your fancy. Of course, since the headset uses a fairly universally accepted 4-pole 3.5mm jack, you’ll find it connects to games consoles, tablets, mp3 players, mobile phone and much more with ease, meaning the Aluma fits the bill for the only headphones/headset you’ll need.
The build quality is great, even more so with the lightweight design, slim, flat and tangle free cable, aluminum housing on the drivers, six sizes of ear buds, and the hard clamshell case to keep it all together when you’re out and about. The sound quality is superb and while I must admit, it’s not much different from the Syva, the Syva do sound great, so that’s hardly a bad comparison. However, the Syva are the Aluma’s downfall in a way, as you can often get them for £10 less than the Aluma, giving you 95% of the thrills for less money, but the added extras do help justify the costs, so it’s really down to you which one best suits your needs.
