Roccat ELO 7.1 AIR Headset Review

How Much Does it Cost?

This headset is part of a trilogy of new headsets. I actually reviewed the base model, the Roccat Elo X Stereo, a few weeks ago. It’s an impressive headset for just £39.99. There’s a surround version for just £59.99 too. However, the Elo 7.1 Air is the flagship model and costs just £89.99. That’s pretty competitive for a fully equipped wireless headset, and even more competitive when you consider the fantastic battery life.

Overview

Roccat make many of my favourite gaming peripherals, and I still use some of their headphones, keyboards and mice at home and around the office and have done for years. Their latest headset is certainly one of the best they’ve done, and while it’s not the greatest headset in the world, it’s certainly one of the best I’ve heard that costs under £100.

Aesthetics

I’ll admit it, I don’t think the design is all that hot. It looks a little old-school and bland actually, but there’s nothing really wrong with it either. It’s all subjective, and lord knows I don’t have good taste, so you’ll have to decide your own thoughts on the style. I don’t think they needed to include RGB on it though, as they were really close to just a dark and stealthy design overall.

Build Quality

The headset scores top marks here, as they’ve used durable and premium materials all over. I love that the battery life is up to 24 hours, even with the RGB and high volumes I got about 18 hours, but I may or may not have remembered to fully charge it first. The bonus is that it’s USB C, and can be charged up very quickly, and even charged while it’s in use.

The auto extending headband and very flexible ergonomics of the ear cups all add up to a very comfortable fit for virtually any head size and shape too. The PU leather looks and feels great too, thanks to plenty of memory foam on the interior.

Performance

I really like this headset for music, it really rocked when playing music. Of course, a great headset needs to be able to play back any audio. The Elo 7.1 shines bring in gaming, and the EQ profiles are all really fantastic for any kind of game you want to play too, even if I do just leave it on boost all the time myself. The surround processing is really on point and worked fantastically in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but it also works well in movies too. Really, nothing to complain about and plenty to praise.

Should I Buy One?

Incredible wireless performance, flexible ergonomics, and a punchy sound that really gives your movies, music and games the wow factor they deserve. It’s not the most modern-looking headset, but when it’s on my ears, I really don’t care!
