Roccat Tyon FPS Gaming Mouse Review

Introduction

Roccat is easily one of my favourite gaming brands. They’ve created some truly incredible peripherals over the years that have been packed full of innovative features, exceptional build quality and a whole lot more. Today seems like history repeating its self as the new Tyon mouse is in the eTeknix office and it certainly looks like it packs a fair few innovative features.

Having a great gaming mouse really makes a difference to your gaming experience. Having the right tools for the job is no bad thing and a feature-packed mouse, that has been tuned for gaming can really make a difference between game over and racking up some headshots. All the usual gaming mouse features are here, with the addition of a two-way analogue stick called the X-Celerator. This is perfect for adjusting your throttle, controlling turrets and more, which could have significant benefits in games such as Battlefield, where you switch from on-foot to in vehicles a lot.

The mouse comes with a hard-wired cable, which features some high-quality black braiding and a custom moulded USB connector.

The mouse has a nice two-tone design, with a hard rubber grip coating over the top that should provide you with extra control and comfort while gaming. The mouse is littered with control switches that look confusing at first, but they’re laid out ergonomically and in surprisingly easy to manage locations.

Down the left side of the mouse, you’ll find a nice ergonomic curve that acts as a thumb rest. There’s two side buttons for forward and back, with the X-Celerator 1 axis analogue stick above them. Finally, you’ll also notice another control switch near the bottom left side of the mouse; this is set to Shift+ by default.

At the top center of the Tyon, you will find another left and right toggle fin-style switch that is perfect for DPI switching. There’s a recessed scroll wheel with a thick rubber grip coating for easy control and there are four more buttons surrounding the left and right mouse buttons; that’s a lot of buttons!

The Tyon keeps with the usual Roccat styling and the design is fairly similar to their popular Kone gaming mice.

This is a very aggressive looking mouse and the mixture of colour and textures makes it look like a piece of military hardware; it looks very cool.

There’s only two slipmats on the base of the mouse, but they’re both quite large and this should provide the Tyon with a good level of glide on a wide range of gaming surfaces. In the center of the mouse you can see the 8200 DPI Laser Pro-Aim Sensor R3.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
