Roccat Vulcan TKL Pro Optical RGB Keyboard

How Much Does it Cost?

At £149.99, it is obviously quite an expensive keyboard. Then again, it’s no more expensive than the flagship models from any other big name brand. Their own custom switches, exceptional RGB control, custom caps, removable cables, etc. All these things add up to a premium product (and price).

Overview

There’s no shortage of truly amazing keyboards right now. Roccat actually make several keyboards that I truly love, and I’m happy to report that their latest effort is now one of them. The Roccat Vulcan TKL Pro Optical RGB may be a bit over the top for the office, but for gamers, it’s a pretty killer solution.

Optical

The main selling point here has to be the optical switches. They don’t truly feel much different than any other linear switch, but that’s actually no bad thing. They have a fast actuation, a fast return rate, and they have an ultra-fast signal time. If you’re an extremely competitive gamer, that might tick all the right boxes for you. For me though, I chill out and play Elder Scrolls Online as a trader, so it’s not giving me an edge, but they are very nice switches to use regardless.

Build Quality

This is where most of your investment is going. Premium quality switches don’t come cheap, and they’re all mounted in that ultra-slim and durable body. There’s brushed aluminium on top, there’s gorgeous LED lighting, there’s USB-C, durable rubber grips, extra wide and strong feet. Again, it really is the sum of its parts and just a very well made keyboard inside and out.

Should I Buy One?

Roccat has tuned this keyboard to the enthusiast market. With endless lighting customisation, built-in multimedia controls, awesome switches, braided cables. It’s just a sexy piece of hardware that you would want to show up, but most importantly, it’s still a serious gaming peripheral too.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
