Rockstar Games Shuts Down GTA 5 Liberty City Preservation Project

The GTA 5 Liberty City Preservation Project mod has been canceled following a request from Rockstar Games, according to the mod’s developers. This project, which had garnered significant international attention recently, aimed to integrate the entire Liberty City map from Grand Theft Auto IV into Grand Theft Auto V. The ambitious mod had excited the PC gaming community with its scale and potential.
Developer Statement on the Cancellation
In a statement (thanks Insider Gaming), one of the mod’s creators explained, “Due to the unexpected attention that our project received and after speaking with Rockstar Games, we have decided to take down the Liberty City Preservation project.” They added, “We appreciate all the support the project has received, and we look forward to continuing to pursue our passion for modding the Grand Theft Auto series.” The announcement, shared via Discord, did not provide further details about the decision.
Rumors of a GTA IV Remaster
Speculation has arisen regarding the cancellation, with some fans theorizing that Rockstar’s intervention might be connected to a potential remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV. According to known leaker Tom Henderson, the mod’s developers may have chosen to shut it down to avoid legal issues with Rockstar.
The lack of concrete information has left many wondering about Rockstar’s motivations and whether a GTA IV remaster could be in development.
