The popular Steam hardware survey has released its results for February, revealing an important change. After months at the top, the RTX 3060 is no longer the most popular GPU on the platform. It has been overtaken by its direct successor, the RTX 4060.
Growth of the RTX 4060
It’s typical for newer models to gradually become more popular than their predecessors. However, the numbers for this month on Steam are quite interesting. Not only did the RTX 4060 surpass the 3060, but it also showed a sharp increase in growth that’s hard to ignore.
In the January survey, the RTX 4060 was found in 4.6% of gamers’ PCs on Steam, trailing the 5.2% of the RTX 3060. However, by the February survey, the 4060 jumped to 8.57%, showing a remarkable rise. The 3060, although still growing, reached 6.87%, but it was left behind.
In third place is the 4060 Ti, which also saw significant growth, jumping from 3.45% to 6.56%. The RTX 4070 came in fourth, growing from 2.89% to 5.43%—a number that would have placed it in first place just two months ago.
Why Are Gamers Switching to the RTX 4060?
The Steam survey alone doesn’t provide enough data to know exactly why the interest in the RTX 4060 spiked. However, we can make some guesses.
It’s possible that many gamers were waiting for the RTX 50 series to release before deciding on a new GPU, and some may have chosen to save money by opting for an older model like the RTX 4060.
Additionally, there are rumors that NVIDIA plans to reduce the stock of the RTX 4060 in February to make way for the RTX 5060 this month. This could have influenced gamers who were on the fence about purchasing a GPU.
