RTX 5090 Buyer Pays $3,150 for Used GPU on Amazon, Finds No GPU or PCB Inside
There have been many times when we have read the story of a user who was scammed when buying a second-hand graphics card. Unfortunately, scams involving cards such as the RTX 5090 are common, and in the last few hours we have learned about a new case.
The person affected was the Reddit user known as Salty-Mirror9498. As he explained in the post he shared, the user bought a used RTX 5090 through Amazon Canada for 4,500 Canadian dollars (around 3,150 USD).
RTX 5090 Scams Reach a New Level
Once he received the card, he wanted to be careful and recorded an unboxing of the order, showing how the package was opened and the card was inspected. The surprise was huge, as once he looked at the card, it had no PCB at all. Although the user initially thought it had arrived without a GPU, the truth was that everything was completely missing.
In the replies, some people said it was his own fault for trusting a third-party seller. The truth is that although the listing showed the name “Warehouse Deals,” this is Amazon’s own second-hand inventory. This gave the user some confidence when spending such a large amount on a second-hand device, especially because Amazon says that all products that pass through this inventory go through a quality check. However, not even that saved him from the scam.
This case makes it clear that we need to be very sure about who we are buying a second-hand product from. Also, to avoid possible scams like this one, it is highly recommended to do what this user did and record ourselves while opening the package for the first time. Although he has not shared anything about it, we hope Amazon gives him his money back sooner rather than later.
