Rumor: Ubisoft Has Put an End to Watch Dogs

Ubisoft is going through a difficult period, marked by game cancellations and a major internal restructuring. The company is reorganizing itself into different divisions, each focused on specific types of games. In the middle of all this, it appears that one of Ubisoft’s most well-known franchises has been permanently shelved. That series is Watch Dogs.

What Is Happening to Watch Dogs?

The information comes from well-known leaker Tom Henderson, who discussed it in a video on the Insider Gaming YouTube channel. According to him, the Watch Dogs series is essentially dead. No further details were shared, but this decision likely follows the weak commercial performance of the most recent game and Ubisoft’s current need to cut costs during its reorganization phase.

The first Watch Dogs launched in 2014 on PS4 and Xbox One and sold around 10 million copies. This success led to a sequel released a few years later, which achieved similar sales. However, Watch Dogs Legion, released in 2020, received lower average review scores than the previous entries. Ubisoft reported 1.9 million copies sold in the first days after launch, but never shared updated sales figures. Since then, the series has shown no signs of continuing.

It is important to note that this information is still a rumor. While Tom Henderson is generally considered a reliable source, there is always the chance that the report is inaccurate. It is also possible that Ubisoft could decide to revive the Watch Dogs brand years from now, depending on future strategy and market conditions.

In other news, Assassin’s Creed Unity is likely the next title from Ubisoft to receive an official 60 FPS patch for modern consoles.
