Steam‘s August 2026 hardware survey brought an interesting surprise for the graphics card market, with the RX 9070 XT becoming AMD‘s most popular dedicated GPU on the platform, overtaking older models such as the RX 6600 and the entire RDNA 3 generation lineup.
With a usage share of 1.46% among surveyed users, the flagship GPU based on the RDNA 4 architecture leads AMD’s lineup, which is a sign of the success of this GPU. The figure shows much faster adoption than its predecessors. This can be explained by its 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, solid rasterization performance, and good ray tracing performance compared to previous generations.
RX 9070 XT Overtakes Every Other AMD GPU in Steam Hardware Survey
Although the overall picture shows Nvidia dominating, with the GeForce RTX 3060, 4060, and the newly arrived RTX 5070 leading the rankings, the rise of the RX 9070 XT allows AMD to close the gap with direct competitors such as the RTX 5070 Ti (1.82%).
This rise is key for the company in the PC segment, where this model sold out at launch in several markets thanks to its price-to-performance ratio.
The real challenge for AMD will be to maintain this growth rate in the medium term, especially in a situation marked by pressure on the memory supply chain and rising manufacturing costs. However, the early success of this graphics card provides a good base for what comes next, which will be the series based on the RDNA 5 architecture.
