Sales of new Blackberry 10 have exceeded initial expectations

The new Blackberry 10 has been given a lot of press recently and some analysts have been sceptical about whether the new handset will be too late a saviour for the company. Other reports have suggested that the new BB10 is a little out of date and it may not be able to keep up with some of the latest models on the market from rival companies.

Contrary to all these rumours and analyst reports, it appears that the new handset has been selling a lot better than expected, at least this is so according to Thorsten Heins, the CEO of Blackerry. Unfortunately the company is holding back on releasing any exact sales figures just yet, although Heins has suggested that they are above their forecasts and that they are looking at their figures on a day-to-day basis.

“We are above our own expectations and our target was thoroughly ambitious, the fact is, we were surprised by the good reaction and we’ve increased our production capacity in the meantime” says Heins

In order to keep up with the higher rate of sales, the handsets production rate has been increased to prevent any short falls in supply which could result in a dip in sales and buyers moving to other alternatives instead.

The new 4G handset offers users 16GB of storage with room for more with a microSD card slot, an 8MP camera with 1080p recording, 10 hours of talk time with 13 days standby from its 1800mAH battery and a 4.2″ touch display. All of this slots into a 9mm thick body weighing 136g and is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor with 2GB of RAM. Other features on the handset include a new style of intelligent keypad that learns the users typing style and makes typing predictions based on what it learns over time and an updated version of Blackberry Messenger (BBM) to now include video chat as well.

Pricing for the Z10 is in the same region as the new iPhone 5 and SIM-free will set you back a hearty £534. The sister handset to the Z10, the Q10 is due for launch in the next few months, but there is no information on pricing as of yet.
