Samsung not interested in WebOS

For those readers who have been keeping up to date on the HP TouchPad situation you will have heard of the speculation that Samsung was looking to license or buy HP’s WebOS Tablet operating system. However, Samsung’s CEO Choi Gee Sung has said that Samsung is not interested in HP’s WebOS at all, not for licensing or purchase. At the IFA in Berlin he stated Samsung’s position and also announced Samsung has its own and it is currently being developed further and is in good health.

“It’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion,” Choi told reporters. He added that Samsung is currently working to boost Bada’s software capabilities “harder than people outside think.” Currently the in-house OS is slated to appear on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note and three additional Wave smartphones. HP was looking for around $1.2 billion for its WebOS but it now appears it has one less customer after Samsung’s withdrawal.
