Samsung Ready to Start HBM4 Memory Production for NVIDIA

Samsung

According to sources cited by Reuters, Samsung Electronics is close to a major step in the memory market. The South Korean company is reportedly ready to begin production of its next-generation high-bandwidth memory, HBM4, as early as next month, with the goal of supplying NVIDIA.

Such a deal would be an important move for Samsung as it tries to close the gap with SK Hynix. In recent years, SK Hynix has become the leading supplier of advanced memory used in AI accelerator chips. Previous delays in Samsung’s memory supply had a negative impact on both its financial results and its stock performance last year.

When Samsung Will Start HBM4 Production

Based on the Reuters source, Samsung plans to start HBM4 production next month. However, no details have been shared about the volumes that could be allocated to NVIDIA. A spokesperson for Samsung declined to comment, and NVIDIA has not made any official statement so far.

Reports from the Korea Economic Daily partly support these claims. According to the newspaper, Samsung has passed internal validation tests required by both NVIDIA and AMD. If confirmed, the first HBM4 shipments to NVIDIA could begin within the next few weeks, strengthening Samsung’s position in a key market segment.

Investors reacted quickly to the news. During morning trading, Samsung shares rose by 2.2%, while SK Hynix shares fell by 2.9%. This shows how closely the market is watching developments in the competition between the two South Korean companies.

SK Hynix stated last October that it had finalized HBM supply agreements with major customers for the coming year. Earlier this month, a company executive confirmed that the new M15X plant in Cheongju will begin using silicon wafers from next month for HBM production. It is still unclear whether HBM4 will be included in the initial production phase.

Both Samsung and SK Hynix are expected to release their fourth-quarter financial results soon. These reports may provide clearer details on HBM4 orders and future business prospects in the high-bandwidth memory market.
