Samsung has today revealed the new Exynos W930 wearable processor keeping smartwatches ahead of the curve with improvements in performance and power saving.
The new Exynos W930 is equipped with the Arm Cortex-A55 dual core CPU which features speeds of 1.4 GHz providing an 18% jump over the previous generation processor. Additionally the DRAM has been expanded to 2GB enabling users to switch between apps up to 25% faster. The W930 makes use of a built-in Arm Mali-G68 MP2 GPU powering 3D interfaces on smart watches and also enabling 21 fps video playback. All of this tech is compacted into slim form using FO-PLP and SiP-ePoP solutions which combine the processor, power management IC, LPDDR4 and eMMC into a small package using a 5nm microfabrication process. Power management is a key focus on this chip with a dedicated low power display core to ensure that always on displays stay vibrant without draining the battery. Additionally the two Arm Cortex-M55 cores provide more efficient processing for longer battery life which is also aided by the lower power needed for Bluetooth connectivity.
