Sandy Bridge-E: release date and a couple of prices

Set to launch in Q4 2011, some stating a precise date of November 14th, here are some prices and specs of three new CPUs under the Sandy Bridge-E.

Core i7 3820

The cheapest of them all, a quad-core processor featuring eight threads and a clock speed of 3.6GHz with support for turbo overclocking. The cache is equipped with 10MB and, as expected, sports the LGA2011 socket.

Coming at around $294, this is as stated the cheapest, although it’s locked and may not be that great for overcloking. Yet strangely enough, Intel presented how to overclock locked processors some time ago…why lock them in the first place?

Core i7 3930K

As all may know, or at least the ones familiar with Intel, this is an Unlocked version, indicated with the letter K. Almost double the price of the 3820, you get a six core processor with twelve threads clocked at 3.2GHz with turbo support as well, and being unlocked, we’ll see what speeds it will produce. This version is equipped with 12MB of cache and also sports the X79 and LGA2011 socket.

This unlocked version will set you back $583, which from a certain point of view, could be regarded as good, as it’s a close equivalent (on paper) of the current $1,000 i7 990X.

Core i7 3960X

Last but not least, the Extreme processor which is the replacement for its predecessor, the 990X. Featuring the common six core, twelve thread, this one is clocked at 3.3GHz instead of 3.46, although it was stated that the performances of the 3960X will be quite higher than the 990X.

Still maintaining the ‘X’ performance, it also inherits its price tag of $999.

Other than these specs, the release date hasn’t been confirmed, therefore is still a rumour.

Still remaining on the subject what do you think of these new CPUs?
