We should note that even as I write this, AMD has still not, at least formally, confirmed the existence of a 590 graphics card. Despite that though, we have already seen and heard a remarkable amount of news about them. For example, it seems fairly certain that the upgrade to the 5XX series of cards will be based on 12nm memory and, on the whole, should perform about 10-15% better than the existing 580.
It’s no lie to say that loads of news surrounding this new card have come out and most of it sounds entirely right. In the latest, a report via Videocardz has leaked images of the new Sapphire Nitro+ RX 590.
In terms of the specification, the details over the Sapphire release would, again, seem to confirm everything we’d heard to date. With, one notable difference. The details here seem to contradict one of the biggest rumours. Specifically that the above leak suggests a 14nm design. As this is a leak, it could, of course, be wrong. Everything we have seen to date though suggests 12nm.
The Radeon RX 590 is reportedly set to release on November 15th. It’s going to be interesting to see how this will compare to the 580. While we don’t expect it to hold up against the 20XX range of cards, it could certainly prove to be one last hurrah for the Polaris 30 architecture.
