Sapphire Radeon HD 5830 Xtreme 1GB Graphics Card Review

Final ThoughtsThe card is certainly stylish and would be suited in any colour scheme of system and will do an effective job of keeping things cool and fairly silent at the same time. For essentially an old car, that’s quite a feat, especially when compared to some of the new products on the market that claim silence and up to 25% cooling efficiency but fail to deliver.

Performance wasn’t anything out of this world if we’re being honest, and showed up with all of the numbers we pretty much expected to come out at the end of the day, though it does go to show that the slightly older tech can still rival some of the more expensive cards that are currently being brought out.

Moving onto the price, this little beauty will set you back £94.99/$129.99 which is quite reasonable, but with a lot of consumers buying second hand, we feel that price could possibly come down a little bit more to make it slightly more attractive, though it is no means expensive, but we’re keen bargain hunters here at eTeknix.

The bottom line when it comes to this card is that it shows good potential in the tests that we run and showed us the type of performance that’s on offer from an older generation card, especially when it growls just behind the slightly fresher, newer cards on the market, but for a much cheaper price, meaning that it really is down to the consumer as to if they need some of the new features that the 6000 series Radeon’s have been equipped with, or if the 5830 Xtreme will still muster up to the job in hand. The choice is yours my friends.

Pros:

  • Elegant and stylish cooler
  • Competitively priced
  • Reliable manufacturer
  • Different connectivity options
  • Reasonable performance

Cons:

  • Stock is diminishing quite quickly
  • Xtreme branding could be misleading
