Sapphire Technology has announced it will be making a “Vapor-X” version of AMD’s HD 6850 graphics card. The card will be fitted with Sapphire’s exclusive Vapor-X cooling design to allow improved thermals and better overclocks versus a stock reference cooling design. The Sapphire Vapor-X HD 6850 has the same core design, 960 stream processors, 48 texture units but since it is a Vapor-X edition clocks have been increased to 800MHz on the core and 4.4GHz (effective) on the GDDR5 memory.
The Vapor-X cooler features a densely packed heat sink, with a copper heat pipe based and a single 92mm fan to cool the AMD GPU core. The PCB features Sapphire’s own 10 Phase VRM power delivery system along with Black Diamond chokes which use less power and run cooler than standard chokes. Sapphire is providing the “Trixx” overclocking software for users to use to help assist with overclocking their cards. The card supports 4 screen eyefinity, BluRay and BluRay 3D playback, DX11 and Stereoscopic 3D.
