PerformanceWe used CrystalDiskMark and ASS SSD to test the performance of the SSD over the USB3.0 interface. Although these benchmarks include a number of different tests, the most significant are the sequential read and write tests. This is because most people will only make use of the extra bandwidth available with USB3.0 when copying large files to an external drive.
We saw large performance improvements all round when connecting the external drive over USB3.0 via the HPU-300 card than using the standard USB2.0 headers on our motherboard, especially in the read tests. In the write tests we think the Sharkoon QuickPort USB3.0 docking station was limiting the write speed as we have found this to be the case in the past. Nevertheless, we also saw a substantial improvement in write speeds.
